Blue Diamond Almonds, based in California, is one of the largest almond producers in the world. They make plant-based almond milks, a range of almond snacks and even almond powder.

The distinctive Blue Diamond packaging is well known around the UK, but mostly in the US where they’re the top almond drink producer under the Blue Breeze branding. They have over 3000 people in their cooperative and have been growing Almonds for over 108 years across 4 generations of growers. That’s an impressive history for a California based food company.

Best For Reducing Calorie Intake

The flagship product from Almond Breeze, their unsweetened almond milk. This milk is creamy and smooth, without an overpowering almond taste. 

This milk has only 13 calories per 100ml, perfect to keep calories low whilst switching to a plant alternative. Use it in your smoothies or cereal to help you lower your calorie intake whilst getting essential calcium and various vitamins into your diet.

This product is available in both fresh and long-life packaging. The fresh packaging will need to be kept in the fridge but the long-life version can be kept in the cupboard at room temperature until it’s opened. Both versions will need to be consumed within roughly 7 days of opening.

Best For Cereal and Porridge

This original blend has the sweetness the unsweetened product lacks, making it perfect for adding to porridge or having on your cereal. The smooth and creamy taste matches that of other Blue Diamond products, as well as being free from many ingredients that many people are intolerant to, such as lactose and gluten.

The sweetened taste comes with an increase in calories, almost double the unsweetened product at 24 calories per 100ml. But this still has a low number of calories compared to other milc types, such as Oatly Skinny at 37 calories per 100ml.

Best For Low Fat Coffee

The barista blend brings together the low calories of almond milk, a creamy and nutty taste and a milk that can be worked by baristas to compliment your coffee. Use this blend with a milk frother to produce the foam you’d expect from a dairy alternative to get your coffee looking as it would have done before.

As with most almond milks, you’ll get a strong almond taste, but if you’re looking for something with a less nutty taste you’re better off trying barista oat milk instead. The benefit of having almonds as your plant alternative of choice is down to calories, at 26 per 100ml it’s on the lower end of total calories as well as being a barista blend. The Oatly alternative is 59 calories per 100ml, so over twice as many.
