What Is Banana Milk?

Banana milk (different from Korean banana milk which is banana-flavoured cow’s milk) is the alternative milc of bananas blended with water and a few other optional ingredients.

How Is Banana Milk Made?

Banana milk is one of the simplest alternative milcs to make. Mooala is one of the few companies to make it and they just blend water, bananas and organic sunflower seeds together. It’s not watery, but not as thick as a smoothie that you’re used to putting bananas in. It has roughly the same consistency as a 2% dairy milk.

How Does It Taste?

Mooala say their banana milk tastes like ‘liquid banana bread! We haven’t tasted it for ourselves so we’ll just have to take their word for it.

Fun Fact: Bananas are technically classified as a berry!

Nutrition And Health

Banana milk is very good for you. With few ingredients and no need for added sugars, the ingredients list is kept to a minimum.

Potassium

As you’ll know, bananas are packed full of potassium, boosting heart health and replacing lost electrolytes.

Fibre & Protein

Banana milk doesn’t perform so well in the plant-based milk scene when it comes to fibre and protein. With just 1 gram of both per serving, you shouldn’t rely on this to get your recommended daily needs.

Vitamins

Bananas contain a good amount of vitamins B6 and C, essential nutrients.

Environmental Footprint

As most of us can’t or don’t grow bananas ourselves, the majority of the produce are shipped thousands of kilometres to arrive at our local supermarket, increasing their carbon footprint. However, due to their relatively lightweight packaging, the environmental footprint for bananas is not very high, relative to other fruits.
